Lawrence Young

Professor Lawrence Young, formerly Pro-Vice Chancellor and Head of the College of Medical & Dental Sciences at the University of Birmingham, is now Pro-VC with repsonsibility for life sciences and medicine at Warwick University.

He is excited by the prospect that cancer stem cell research will lead to a range of ideas on the origin and treatment of malignant disease — and the impact that would have on patients.

His particular line of research is on a common herpes virus, Epstein-Barr. He leads a team investigating how the Epstein Barr virus (EBV) is linked to certain types of cancer including Hodgkin’s lymphoma and nasopharyngeal cancer, and in developing new ways to treat these cancers.
