Book launch: a celebration dinner on 14th September
The official launch of The New Optimists: Scientists View Tomorrow’s World & What It Means To Us is a celebration dinner co-hosted with the British Science Association on Tuesday 14th September at Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
Described by Jenny Uglow in the Foreword as “the most exhilarating of books“, The New Optimists is by leading scientists in the West Midlands. Many of them will be at the dinner, as will editor Keith Richards. The BBC’s David Shukman will speak, and the Ben Markland Quartet with Sara Colman have been commissioned to create a composition in the moment under the direction of the diner audience. (It will rock!)
The University of Birmingham (College of Medical and Dental Sciences) and Aston University (who are generously supporting the book production), plus Wellcome Image Award winner, local photomicrographer Spike Walker, and the Institute of Gaming and Animation with David Burden’s Daden, will all have exhibitions/displays.
Diners receive a free copy of the book, plus more copies will be available at the discounted rate of £10 on what will be a lively and very interesting evening.
You can already buy The New Optimists on Amazon, along with David Shukman’s latest book Reporting Live from the End of the World and Sara Colman’s 2009 CD Ready
